Session 15: Brigands and Blood

Beleram swopped down, his talons raking across one of the robbers, each claw digging deep into their flesh as he screamed and collapsed as Beleram released him, a pool of blood around him, but still alive.

Baranthor, slightly wounded, swooped down on another of the robbers, leaving him bloody as one of his talons dug deep into the robber’s shoulders, body and back. He collapsed, bleeding badly, but also still alive.

Armanel, least damaged of the Great Eagles, but seeing his two comrades having been wounded, swooped down one of the robbers and viciously tore the robber apart, before taking him to the air and dropping his corpse back into the ruins.

The Giant Eagles returned to the air, circling the ruins, waiting to see if they should come down again.

At that moment the northern gate thundered and began to crack. Peering through the splintering wood that would soon crumble under another such assault was Dolly.

And she looked pissed.

Lodin peeked over the wall and fired another shot, striking one of the robbers who had been badly bleeding, his arrow finding its mark, and stealing the last hope the robber had of living through this ordeal, as his body crumbled lifelessly to the ground.

Still wounded, Lodin pulled one of the arrows out, and watched as one of the brigands had run towards Frerin. Pulling out the second arrow, he shouted, “We need one alive, Frerin!” Then quickly recalled the stories of his family, and vigor coursed through his body, seemingly healing his wounds through sheer adrenaline.

Meanwhile, outside the keep, nearly breathless, Maethordan rounded the keep and saw the punctured wall he’d spotted from the other side and quickly stepped in, seeing still several brigands alive, by Anna Wintermoss was chained to a wall connected to the sixty foot tower. She seemed to be unconscious from what he could tell from this distance, in the shadows of the night.

One of the robbers, already gravely wounded, seeing a horse breaking down the gate, assumed more soldiers were behind it - and seeing Maethordan appear behind him only convinced him further that the keep had been surrounded and saw one way out - past the dwarf. However, as he tried to get by Frerin, who had already been busy fighting the Southern Raider, the dwarf was not about to let the brigand get away - and cleaved his axe deep into the robber’s leg, striking a vital artery that now spewed blood onto the battle floor and the robber quickly collapsed, lapsing into death quickly as the rest of his life blood poured out. “We won’t be able to question that one,” Frerin called out to Lodin, apologetically even as the Southern Raider fighting with the dwarf continued to swing wildly.

Having witnessed the dwarf before him cut down one of his companions, the Southern Raider took advantage of the dwarf’s brief distraction and brought his sword down into Frerin’s shoulder. The dwarf yelped in pain, blood pouring from the wound, but his eyes now honed in on the Southern Raider. As Frerin stepped forward to swing his axe, the wound in his arm burned with pain, and the axe slipped from his hands as he brought it down for a swing. It clanked to the floor, sliding five feet away from him. The Southern Raider grinned as Frerin began to reach for his sword.

One of the uninjuried robbers fired at Fay, just as she rose up - one of the arrows struck her, but the second struck harmlessly at the wall. Fay, though injured, fired another arrow at one of the remaining robbers, who had not yet been hit and returned the favor by landing an arrow in him.

At the northern gate, Dolly kicked down the remaining portion of the gate. Above, the giant eagles, awaiting to be signaled, continued to circle, ready to attack if needed…
