Maethordan was a bastard child though his heritage was alledged to be from an ancient line. He never knew his father (a black Neumanorian) and it was rumoured that his mother had little choice in his conception. He is a young man that is followed by darkness that is not of his making. His mother died before he reached 10 years of age but, while she was alive she raised with integrity, honesty and the kind of humility that many mistook for weakness.
For most of his younger life he was unliked and laboured at thankless jobs that every one else did not want to complete such as mucking out horses or digging or emptying latrines. He carried out these tasks with the honesty and integrity of his upbringing always seeing the jobs through to completion.
In what little time he spent relaxing he would listen to the bards and try and learn new words or watch the mercenaries and Rangers training trying to pick up skills for fighting. A lot of the time he was caught watching he was dragged into painful practice with the mercenaries or failed to verbally joust with some of the more spiteful bards.
Eventually he was called to help defend one of the Ranger's permanent camps using only the pitch fork he used to move straw into the stables and the skills he gleaned he help to fight off the attackers. When the orcs from the north he followed one on the Rangers into the fight and using the pitchfork's longer reach he kept the orcs at bay and eventually impaled one using his not inconsiderable strength. A strength gained from hours of labour along with the stamina to fight well passed what was expected of one so young. He kept up with the Ranger who after the fight acknowledged the young man's bravery by giving him some armour and weapons from the slain orcs and taking him as an apprentice.
The Ranger, a veteran Dunedian, saw the darkness following the young man but saw beyond it to the nobility of his upbringing and trained the young man all the skills he would need to help defend the people of Eriador and to survive in the wilderness.
He is tall and but his strength is wiry and so he does not bulge with muscle. His hair is black and unkempt and is mostly kept behind the hood of his cloak, but tied back into a loose pony tail when not. He has as short black beard no more than (1/2 inch long). The feature that stands out the most is his has bright emerald green eyes supposedly a feature of his father.
His clothes are of simple construction and plain in colour which along with his armour and cloak are well worn but carefully patched and well cared for. His weapons and equipment are equally well worn but also well cared for.
While he does not regularly engage in conversation he is a good natured soul, slow to anger and quick to laugh even at jokes at his own expense, many of which he makes.
