Do you have to be Vietnamese to join?
No! We are an organization that promotes Vietnamese awareness; we are not Vietnamese exclusive. In fact, we encourage people from all backgrounds to take part in this student organization. Language barriers scare you? Don't worry - most of the members in VSA mainly speak english. All in all, we hope that you will take the initiative to participate in an organization that wishes to truly make a difference in the lives of those who surround us, as well as ourselves. Collectively we can make a big impact on the Vietnamese community and we welcome all individuals who share the same view.
With so many members already in VSA, how can it be personal?
There are many opportunities we give for members to feel like they can belong with us, as one of us. For one, each new member has the choice to be given a big, which puts you into a family with other members with whom you can interact and attend VSA events with. We also make it our duty to create many environments where it's easy to get to know and talk to other people, because our main goal for VSA is to carry on that "family" aspect we've always had. There are countless ways we provide for members to get close and personal with VSA, the only thing is that you, as a new member would have to actively give as much as you expect to get.
Do I have to pay? I fall under the category of broke college student, and I don't want to pay anything extra.
Unlike most other cultural clubs, fraternities/sororities, interest clubs, and community service clubs, we DO NOT have any membership fees in VSA. However, depending on the occasion, there may be simple ticket fees for certain events. But for the most part, going to meetings and partaking in events is FREE! It may only cost you gas money, an arm and a leg. We can't pay for all your food or gas, but we do try to provide for all our members as much as we can, in any way possible.
I'm already so busy with school and work and etc. What are the time commitments like if I want to join VSA?
There are no mandatory events or meetings to attend. We host general meetings and various after events every week, and a number of off-campus events every few weeks. We also go to other schools' VSAs' events to support, as they support us as well. There are a lot of events we have all the time, so if you can't make it to one, there will always be another!
What makes us stand out from other organizations on campus?
We have a unique alliance with other universities and organizations. We seek to expand our horizon through collaboration with over a dozen other universities and organizations around Southern California including:
UCI, UCR, USC, CSUF, UCSD, CSULA, CSUN, UCSB, CSUSB, SDSU, CPP, GWC, UVSA, VAHSA.
This offers an opportunity for our club to network with other schools by attending local events planned by other organizations. You’ll have the chance to meet many students, leaders, activists and other people from all over the state and country.
Is it too late for me to join?
Nope! We're always welcoming new faces to our family.
