Ultrasound Workflow
Key points:
ED ultrasounds can generate a radiology bill or plain provider procedure bill.
EPIC order +US images=radiology bill
Dot phrases that generate a physician procedural bill: (no images saved)
.edfastultrasound
.bedsideultrasound
If an ultrasound affects your management though, you should tie the images to the chart with an order. We've had many trauma QI requests from ACS to look at our ultrasounds. Here's how:
EPIC order+ US images= linked to EPIC chart+billed
Sepsis re-evals:
enter EPIC order bedside echo/pulmonary
pull up order on machine
scan
end study
Let scribe know you performed ultrasound and they will send you the report to sign
Traumas/arrests: (don't have time to enter order)
manually enter some identifying info: level B samurai sword etc
scan
end study
Ask scribe to merge images to order. Make sure there is an order and that you tell the scribe.
NOTE: Radiology studies take precedence on billing. So, if you do an echo initially and formal echo is done later- the pt will only get billed for the formal echo.
We also seem to have an ongoing issue with reports not populating into ED note even after it's signed. Please continue to notify Dr. Tseeng of those.
