  • Ride along with AMR – Riverside

  • Ride along with SB Fire

  • Ride along with Hesperia Fire

    • You will listen to radio calls and then take calls like the MICN, all need to be logged

  • One lecture to paramedics/EMT

  • Pick one: Mercy Flight or Newport Beach Fire (or any other agency of your choice)

    • If it's the summer, consider the beach ride-along. Everyone says good things about it.

    • Mercy air gets mixed reviews. Sometimes you sit around all day and don't fly

AMR RIDE-OUT

AMR ride-outs are generally 12 hours. If the ambulance you’re riding on is able to take you back earlier, they will if you request it. They can’t guarantee it, but if it’s doable, they will.

Please arrive a bit early for your AMR ride-alongs in order to complete some required paperwork. Remember to take the Progress sheet with you to have signed off by the ride-along agencies.

AMR has asked that you wear your scrubs and wear your ID, and please no open-toed shoes.

FIRE RIDE-OUT

These are 12 hours and are generally pretty busy. If there is free time you can have them show you what's in the truck. The food is usually really good.

SHERIFF

When you report for the Sheriff ride-along, you may have to wait a few minutes for them to bring a car in. Shifts are 10 hours long and usually you will ride in different areas of San Bernardino throughout the shift.

For Sheriff ride-along, wear street clothes.

PRESENTATION

During your EMS month you will do a presentation for EMS providers on a topic of your choice.

Your audience will be Paramedics and EMTs for the most part. Your presentation can be on anything that touches on emergency care. You can get a list of the most recent topics from the coordinator. The Medics really appreciate information on anatomy and physiology, in addition to assessment skills.

READINGS

You will get a packet from the program coordinator about 1 week before you start your rotation. Most of the ride alongs will be pre-scheduled, but most of the organizations are flexible. If you want certain days off, email the program coordinator as soon as possible.

PEARLS

  • Be aware of the other dress code requirements in the packet

  • Bring a flashlight if you are riding with SB Sheriff at night

  • Dress warmly for nighttime shifts
