Spring 2022 Grade 7 Global Connections PBL – Social Development Goal 6 Clean Water and Sanitation

Topic 1: Introduction and vocabulary

Students will become familiar with the vocabulary and concepts of the unit. They will collaborate to discover new terms and research their meanings. We will also discuss their importance in global issues.

Topic 2: Geography

Students will research the topic of how clean water can help the world. They will read about these topics and see how broad the topic of clean water and sanitation is.

Topic 3: Clean Energy Science

Students examine the ways that water can be made suitable for drinking. We will go through the different ways and students will make judgments on the best methods to make clean water for everyone.

Topic 4: Clean Water Final Project

Students in groups will brainstorm a new design for a water filter. The focus of their design is that it is environmentally friendly. They will need to be sure that the water can be made safe for more people. They need to consider how their design could be distributed to families who need water around the world that don’t have access to clean water. Students will consider the global impact a water filter like this could make. They will address the water pollution issues globally and discuss the impact of human actions on water. Finally, they will assemble it as a team then try filter the water. They will share their conclusions with the class. Following the project, students will also reflect on the project and their role in it.
