Fall 2022 Grade 7 Global Connections PBL – Social Development Goal 5 Gender Equality

Topic 1: Introduction and vocabulary 

Students will become familiar with the vocabulary and concepts of the unit. They will collaborate to discover new terms and research their meanings. We will also discuss their importance in global issues.

Topic 2: Sociology

Students will research the topic of gender and understand how it is used in our society. They will look at social constructs and the feminine and masculine sterotypes. 

Topic 3: History

Students examine the way that colors became associated with certain genders. They will also look at how some jobs have historically been associated with a specific gender 

Topic 4: Science

Students examine the way that STEM is connected to the two genders. They will analyse a study about the math ability between the two genders.  

Topic 5: Case Study:

Students in groups will research the case study of Mahsa Amini and the current protests in Iran. They will see how those actions have led to global protests and a renewed discussion on gender equality in Iran.

Topic 5: Gender Equality Final Project

Students in groups will research and promote a famous female from modern day or history. Students will choose someone meaningful to their group. By studying about a famous female, they can present them to the class in a way that others may otherwise not be familiar with.
