After watching the bucket concept skits from last lesson, it should be clear that filling somebody's bucket means showing kindness towards other people. Today's lesson objective is:
I will be able to identify and evaluate ways to conserve water at home.
Let us shift away from people, and take a step back.
What if we thought about bucket-filling and -dipping in the context of our planet? In other words, what does it mean to show kindness and unkind-ness towards our planet Earth? With it being our water unit, I want you to think about how people use water. Look at slide 8 in the Google Slides and jot down your thoughts on the note catcher on page two of your packet.
Once you have finished jotting down your thoughts, I want you to share the best example of each bucket type on this Padlet. Try out the features and be creative! After you create your post, read some of your classmate's posts and react and leave comments.
If you cannot access the Padlet link, then try this QR code instead with your camera app on your phone.
With a partner, compare your water tracker logs (shown on the right) from the past week. If you have not yet, calculate your water usage for each of the activities.
Between the your partner and yourself, highlight:
any activities that one of you uses significantly more water for
unique activities that one of you uses water for
the total amount of water that each of you uses in an average week
After you have finished the partner comparison, independently...
Using your partner's water tracker as reference, take a few minutes to identify 1-3 activities where you waste a significant amount of water on page 3 of your student packet note catcher. Then, independently brainstorm ways to reduce your water usage for those activities. Be specific, be realistic, and be sure that it is actionable.
One you and your partner are ready, I want you to come together again and look over each other's ways to reduce water usage. Your task is to evaluate your partner's solution(s), and provide a recommendation to make the solution EVEN BETTER!
Once you have finished your evaluations, I want you to share your peer-reviewed water reduction strategies on this new Padlet. Once again after you create your post, read some of your classmate's posts and react and leave comments.
