Lecturers without borders: researchers mobility
Lecturers without borders project
Lecturers without borders network - distributed network of researchers around the globe
Main idea is use the untapped opportunity for researchers, who travel to link to local projects.
Lecturers without borders are scientists and university and school professors, willing to use different travel opportunities (when we attend scientific conferences, when we go on holidays, etc.) to give free outreach-lectures in local schools and high-schools to complement education systems in developing countries:
Main focus: Indonesia, Senegal, India, Russia, Greece, France, Italy.
Main partners of Lecturers without borders here.
More information about the project on scied.network website with the database
Researchers' mobility data
In order to explore the untapped opportunity of the system we created the data collection project together with Open Humans project.
More information about the project on scied.network website and on Open Humans project page.
Lecturers without borders network is distributed network of researchers around the globe. You are welcome to join!
We made the survey with researchers from Marie-Curie research project and asked the questions about:
How much researchers are travelling?
How much of these travels are for conferences?
In which countries do researchers usually go?
Full results of the survey will be published after agreeing with the people taking part in the survey.
Analysis of mobility data
My GitHub repository to analyse and work on networks for social good https://github.com/Liyubov/data_analysis_for_social_good
Inspired by the research questions addressed by the colleagues, I did small example notebook, where I analyzed transportation data open from global mobility data. See on my github repository https://github.com/Liyubov/talks-from-conferences/blob/master/mobilitydata%20analyzer.ipynb
I also recommend to read an article about "How much sharing data from the phone can improve and help our lives?" Researchers have analysed anonymized phone records of tens of millions of people in low-income countries. Critics question whether the benefits outweigh the risks https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-019-01679-5
Collection of data about educational institutions
We created the citizen science project to collect the data about educational institutions around the world. We use openstreetmaps for this. Please send us the request, if you would like to work on that.
