• Regular class hours are 8:50 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

• One hour for lunch (11:25 a.m. to 12:25 p.m.).

• The main office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m

All students must complete a minimum of 40 hours of approved involvement in the community during their four years of high school. See the guidelines on involvement and community involvement.

The Advanced Placement (AP) courses offered by Lisgar are listed in the student planner. Lisgar encourages students who have demonstrated academic achievement, academic integrity, commitment to school, and a strong work ethic to consider AP courses. However, they must have permission from the department head or current subject teacher. Students must also fulfill AP course prerequisites before beginning courses. With School approval, students in Grade 10 may take Grade 11 courses. Students in Grade 11 can take Grade 12 courses. However, many courses have prerequisite courses that must be taken first.

Information on upcoming competitions is posted on our website and on bulletin boards throughout the school. Teachers also provide information on these competitions during class time.

Students who have not formally studied the subject but who want to take part in a competition should contact the teacher(s) affiliated with the competition.

Student Services provides the liaison with universities/colleges and is staffed with guidance counselors to provide assistance to students.

Students can contact universities/colleges to arrange a specific meeting. However, students also visit during designated visiting days, such as open houses held in the spring.

Students can contact the Admissions office of universities/colleges of interest to inquire about school or campus tours. Each year, the Ontario Universities' Fair is held in Toronto over a weekend in September or October, before Thanksgiving. A smaller, regional version of the fair, the University Information Program, takes place in the Ottawa area at different times of the year.

There are three broad categories of scholarships:

1. Sponsored or nominated scholarships

2. Direct applicant scholarships

3. Admission (or entry) scholarships

The application procedures are different for each. There is no limit to the number of scholarships that student can apply for. However, some universities/colleges will restrict the amount of funds they will disburse to a student that wins more than one scholarship, although the student will still be deemed a recipient. For example, a student who wins a major entry scholarship such as the Loran may see their entrance scholarship funds reduced.

Yes. The dress code at Lisgar is governed by an OCDSB Policy (P.104.SCO) and is included in the student agenda.

Lisgar follows OCDSB policies on bullying, harassment, and inappropriate behavior, along their consequences. See the Provincial Code of Conduct - Standards of Behavior, Respect, Civility and Responsible Citizenship and the OCDSB Code of Conduct for detailed information.

Parents/guardians should immediately advise a staff member (home room teacher, student support staff, or Vice Principal) if: Your child is being bullied, your child is involved in bullying, another child is being bullied, or your child has witnessed bullying or thinks someone else is being bullied (either on or off school property or online).

Unless there is a special event, or prior arrangement has been made with a school administrator or teacher, the school is not accessible to students during the weekend.

The school does not have parking facilities. There is paid street parking on Lisgar. However, most street parking in direct vicinity of the school is pay-and-display and is limited to a one-hour time period, if used prior to 7:00 p.m. on a weekday.

There are also several paid parking lots in the vicinity. For some events, such as council meetings, mock timetable evening, parent-teacher interviews, and art/sports events, the “cage” beside the gym is open for parking and is free.

Some teachers prefer communication by email, others by telephone. During mock timetable evening or the first meeting with the teacher each semester, parents/guardians will have an opportunity to ask for contact information.

Many teachers will provide a prepared note with his or her contact information. If you need to contact a teacher before the mock timetable evening, call the office.

The School Council is an advisory body that represents the voice of parents/guardians to the Principal, the OCDSB, and the Ministry of Education. It meets once each month, generally the first Tuesday evening of the month, at 7:00 p.m. in the school library.

The School Council consists of parents/guardians, some with designated volunteer positions, the Principal, at least one other staff member, one or two student representatives from the Student Council, and, on occasion, an invited community representative.
