We’re almost at the finish line but we need your HELP!

Last month I found myself back, running in Ottawa’s largest a large road race, and for me it was the first live race since the pandemic. The problem was I had lapsed in my usual running training, even though I walk my dog 10 to 15 km a day. I reassured myself that I could always just walk but I was doing this for a charity event and so I needed to persevere. The thing about running races is that you need to remember to always have a small reserve of energy for that last burst when you’re 500 meters from the finish line.

Today, we are in that last 500 meters to the end of the school year and the Lisgar School Council needs that burst of support from the parent community to make it to the finish line. We need your help with our final two events of the year: the Teachers Appreciation Lunch and the Commencement Reception.

The teachers and staff at Lisgar have been running the Covid marathon and this year was no exception. For the first time since 2019, we are able to host a live Teachers Appreciation Lunch, on Wednesday, June 29^th, which makes this event even more special. Rest assured that the effort required is far less than running a race! All you need to do is provide food or beverage, deliver it to the school. Also, if you can, give us a helping hand with set up and clean up, we need five volunteers for that.

We have set up an electronic signup to make it easy to track the foods donated and to enable contact with you regarding the lunch event.

The Commencement Reception, on Thursday, June 30^th, is a hallmark event of Lisgar School Council as we salute the grads and outgoing parents by hosting a reception following the commencement ceremonies. This year we have two receptions because the graduating students will be receiving their diplomas in two groupings, one at 9:00am and one at 11:30am. For this event we only need help with setting up, serving and clean up, the School Council will be taking care of the reception refreshments. We are looking for 5 adult volunteers, plus 1 volunteer coordinator on site, as well as 10 student volunteers. Volunteers will be needed from 9:30am - 1:30pm to help cover both ceremonies.

This will be my last BLOG as my son graduates this year. I want to thank the Lisgar School Council executive, Lisgar staff and all of the parent community who have made our time at Lisgar memorable!
