Lirse inhabit Omsitera, a vast continent with many unexplored biomes and locations. Two moons orbit the planet, which occasionally results in especially strong tides and very bright nights. Clear night skies are ablaze with stars, and there isn’t much light pollution to speak of.
For Common Lowland Lirse, the world is restricted to Kaelum’s Nest, a great valley protected by a ring of mountains. Climbing these ranges is difficult and dangerous, and the one safe route out of the valley was blocked generations ago by a devastating rockslide that filled the pass. Since then, their contact with humans and other colonies of lirse outside of the Nest has been cut off.
Two colonies of lirse live in the Nest; the Talpash colony lives in a vast underground network of burrows, while the Fisim colony has learned from their human neighbors and moved to the surface.
Both colonies believe in the same six gods, who can be read about HERE.
Pine trees, mountains, tall grasses.
The Talpash refer to their colony’s location simply as The Burrows. The Burrows are a complex maze of tunnels, private dens, public dens, and public rooms such as a communal kitchen, market places, and more. There are many dead ends to the burrows, and various forms of signs are used to offer directions, to mark private locations, and to confuse intruders.
At the center of the Burrows is a large shrine carved into stable ground, with a window carved into the ceiling so that Kaelum may look down on her children. This shrine is not only a place of worship but also of quiet reflection and reverence; lirse may come here when needing to find solace, when contemplating a problem or choice in their life, or simply if they need a quiet place to relax.
Brown caverns and tunnels, glowing crystals or fire or openings to the sky for lighting.
Sark is the hometown of the Fisim. Constructed largely out of simple one-level wattle and daub houses and buildings, the river nearby is used to great advantage by the Fisim, especially in construction. They’ve even learned from their human neighbors and have begun to cultivate small fields of crops.
Sark’s shrine doubles as an open-air gathering area, with the gods’ likeness standing on pedestals in a place of honor. Although a place of reflection and reverence like the shrine in their sister colony, this gathering area is also used as a place of revelry and celebration thanks to its large area and central location.
Daub buildings, mountains in the distance, dirt roads.
Optional: Farmland.
