A participatory installation developed through a research residency at HetHuis Utrecht (NL) in 2024, emerging from the research gathered during the performative walk at Oerol Festival in 2023. Investigating belonging—to each other, space, and the more-than-human world—the research explored how landscapes of memory intersect. What happens when one memory of a place meets another? How do we weave these memories into a shared soundscape?
Together with sound artist & scenographer Elsa Van der Linden, I created a performative experience to bring the landscape of Terschelling into a theatre space, to ignite the imagination of the audience and develop a keen ear for observation.
Soundscape of a Landscape is a participatory theatre experience shaped by dramaturgy, scenographic tools, and performative methods, intersecting ritual and play. 21 translucent cloth panels arranged in a spiraling womb—like a snail’s shell or the inner contours of an ear, offer participants to move through the space. Guided by ritual-like instructions, they encounter materials and objects, shifting between structured gestures and spontaneous exploration. Through their actions, they shape a living soundscape—built on personal associations, memories, and interaction.
The work challenges traditional hierarchies—artist-audience, research-performance, inner-outer, individualism-animism—transforming the experience into a site of co-creation.
