An interactive performance on Liminal Spaces At OFFSPRING (a platform designed to share artistic practices, as a part of SPRING performance arts festival, Utrecht, 2023), which emerged during my residency at Het Huis Utrecht (NL), in October 2022.
Seven ceramic objects (seven islands/archetypes) were used as tools of research. Manifested as ‘utopias’ or places, the islands are a search for belonging to an imaginary landscape. Each island is a different iteration of the same group, offering the spectator a new way to explore it. When held into the palm of the spectator’s hand, they become a guide to travel, to elsewhere, to somewhere else.
The body of the 7 islands is used as a method for igniting the imagination, associations and memories of spectators. The 20 minutes long event, with around 40 audience members, offered a moment to go on a collective journey through booklets with ways to travel through the islands. These booklets became an archive to continue the research.
