Premise & Theme

The players are up and coming users on a social media platform who are all trying to become more popular. Every round, they make posts in order to try to gain popularity.

Setting

The setting of the game is online on the internet, specifically a social media platform where users can post pictures with a caption.

Game Objective

The objective of the game is to be the most popular on the platform and the first to go viral. This is represented as the final space on the board, and each player’s goal is to reach the end of the board first.

Core Gameplay

Players choose a content card to go with the caption card that is drawn, as well as an intent card. They vote for their favourite post, excluding their own, and the player who receives the most votes becomes the influencer of the round and can choose to report, or reveal, another player’s intent card.

Unique Elements

The game assets, including the cards, board, and Like tokens, are designed by our team. A unique element of the gameplay is that the players’ movement on the board depends on the results of a voting system and the cards they play rather than pure chance such as a die roll or spinner.

Narrative/Story

Players start the game as new social media users who are striving to gain popularity by posting different kinds of content, including spreading misinformation. Players can post, like, and report other players. The winner will be the one who has the most viral contents on social media. 

Play Matrix

"Like and lies" is a game that requires skills, chance, and mental calculations. Players need to interact with other players and use strategies to get higher points, interpreting the decisions that other players have made to choose to reveal them or not. Chances are also important because players will get a higher chance to win if they get better cards and resources. Mental calculation is needed because there are so many decisions that players need to make and predict other players' decisions.
