For this standard I have learnt that it is important that every child feels cared for and valued whilst in your classroom. Each child has their own emotional needs to be met, especially at such a young age. The evidence below has shown my development of what I expect as the teacher to ensure every child is happy in school, but also that child praise and motivation needs to be consistent to gain the trust and respect of the pupils in your class. If the teacher creates a welcoming secure environment, children will feel comfortable to engage in the curriculum with their teacher and show their capabilities by confidently answering questions or engaging in tasks that are set by the teacher. In school I have understood that each child has different goals, abilities, targets to be met at their own level. Some children's best may not be good enough for another child, so it is important to encourage children to meet their own personal best and not feel like they are not succeeding. As a teacher, children need to be aware that what they are doing when engaging and working hard is good enough and we can help them by actively praising, rewarding etc. but also by having conversations with the child that help them feel valued. In my future practice as I progress into my NQT year and beyond, the experiences I have had will allow me to reach out to each child individually to assess their needs and how as a teacher I can help them to achieve their own personal best in school, feeling like a valued member of the school community.
