Fun Fact: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that student exam scores improved 6% when active learning approaches were used and students in traditional classes were 1.5 times more likely to fail than those being taught with interactive methods.
Active Learning to the Rescue!
Interactive teaching involves instructing the students in a way they are actively involved with their learning process. This is a very important pillar in the learner-centred approach my L.E.T.E.T.I.A framework an educator. I employ different approaches to create an this atmosphere, through:
teacher-student interaction - "Temperature Checks" with discussion questions and interactive polls
student-student interaction - collaborative exercises such as the "Flipped Classroom" and "Think, Pair, Share"
the use of audio and visuals support - PowerPoint, YouTube videos and Lecture recordings
hands-on tutorial demonstrations and exercises - Screencasts and Synchronous Class Group work
Let's have a closer look at my innovative and effective instructional methods.
