Video: I am honoured to be invited to share my instructional strategies in the classroom. To learn more about these see my Effective Teaching Strategies.
thI am a life-long learner and I value professional enhancement through continuous training in my profession, as an educator and also as both Mathematician and Statistician. How else will I be able to create an environment for my students which promotes continuous learning? I know that I need to set the example. It also boost my self-efficacy in my field and allows me to network with others who can improve my skill set.
Some Highlights:
I have also presented at the April 2024 Faculty Cafe at the Centre of Excellence for Teaching and Learning (CETL) at The UWI. This interactive round of 20 minute unconference presentations with my fellow colleagues allowed me to reflect on innovative methods to build Statistics Capacity. I was impressed that my fellow educators were very compelled to share about this area, which has also been a source of anxiety for their students.Â
See Building Statistics Education Capacity   for more on my presentation.
I was also invited to give present some of my share my expertise on my instructional techniques in a CETL Faculty Talks video. See the video for my insights :)
I participated in a 4-week Teaching with AI training through Course Hero's AI Academy. It allowed me to redesign the PSYC 6013 course to include the ethical use of Generative AI in the Guided Project. See some more insights on this below.Â
Here are a few of my certifications I have gained over the years from the UWI's CETL, and other professional organizations.Â
Feel free to see my LinkedIn Profile for my other certifications.

For having successfully earned 10 CEUs in'Teaching with AI'
by Course Hero.Â
In order to obtain the final certificate, I submitted a professional statement about how AI will be implemented within your classroom teaching and learning practices. I applied this to the Guided Project compoment of the course PSYC 6013 - Advanced Statistics and Research Methods for Psychology.

“The purpose of artificial intelligence is to re-engineer the human mind.” ~ Chris DuffeyÂ
Incorporating AI into the realm of education represents a transformative force as a way to revolutionize pedagogical practices. It can help students learn crucial 21st-century abilities such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and cooperation, thereby enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of educational experiences. These abilities are critical for success in the digital era, and may be cultivated through hands-on experience with AI tools and apps. As such, the implementation of AI in this course through the following ways holds the potential to usher in a new era of personalized and adaptive learning:
Partner with Other Departments - collaboration with the Department of Computing and Information at the University of the West Indies (UWI), STA, via an awareness and information session, can engage the successful integration of AI into the course/classroom. This can yield support, training and guidance to assist the students accurately and effectively incorporate AI into their educational practices.Â
Gamification in Project-Based Learning- use of AI to create interactive and engaging educational games for a Guided Project Proposal. These will include goal-focused activities, reward mechanisms, and progress-tracking, to engage students and facilitate collaboration for their group Statistical Project (as adapted from Huiyu, Fang & Polytechnic, 2021).Â
Online Learning and Resources - students will be encouraged and directed/advised on AI-powered educational platforms and apps such as IBM Watson, Coursera, edX, that can provide personalized learning paths and adaptive quizzes to reinforce statistical concepts. They can undergo an assessment to gauge their current level of understanding, knowledge gaps, and learning preferences.Â
In keeping with The UWI’s ethical standards students will be required to address their the use of AI in the following ways:
Reflective Thinking - students must reflect on their use of AI once used in any assignments, project or research and this reflective statement must be submitted alongside their submissions. Reflections must include:Â
The specific AI tools or technologies you used.
Why did you choose a particular AI tool for your project?
The purpose of using AI in your project or task.
The challenges you encountered during the process.
Your thoughts and emotions as you worked with AI.
The outcomes of your AI-related work, both positive and negative.
Ethical considerations addressed or encountered when using AI?
Did you experience any biases or limitations in the AI tools you used?
How did AI enhance or hinder your project's objectives?
Did you seek feedback or guidance from mentors or peers when using AI tools?
