#08 - Escape to the Cellar

The day is Saturday, September 23rd, 2023. Day 8. Since today I’m a fan of the pixelated art people have made for me to hang in my house, it fits great. Still not a fan of those scary monsters out there…

Make the Room Light Up

And we’re back to making windows! This next one goes into our working space, looking out at our pool. With this one, we decide to experiment a bit by putting some sand next to the window on both sides. Doesn’t look too bad, could also be much better though.

Next we plan some windows for the living room, but due to a lack of glass we will only remember where we could put them - if we put them in. But one thing that’s way more important is light, since we don’t want evil people to spawn in our house when we least expect it! So we place some torches into the house, and that problem should be solved now.

Art and Danger!

While placing those torches, we think about putting a painting between two torches. So we quickly craft two paintings out of sticks and wool and place one between the torches in the living room - and it doesn’t look bad at all! Since we made one extra, we try putting a small one on the other side of the wall, while showcasing all the possible paintings the game has (or had at this point). We finally decide for a pixel painting resembling a classic Counter Strike stage.

It’s daytime again! Time to finally go out and FINALLY get some damn wood and stone - or not, a creeper is right by our house… this game really doesn’t like us, does it? We have to watch the creeper from a distance, first from a window, then from behind the western house wall… but he ain’t leavin’. That sucks. Well, since we’re scared to go out, let’s at least get some stone in our basement.

Cellar Darling

A way down into the basement is made with a ladder in the workspace - I’m not a big fan of that yet, I’d rather prefer a stairway down, maybe even in the entrance area, but this will have to do for now. Down there, we start digging sand, digging sand, digging sand, breaking some stone every now and then, and digging more sand. All that, of course, to get one layer further down so we can get more fancy cobblestones which we desperately need at the moment.

While digging sand, we ramble on about an old creepypasta. Does anyone even still read creepypastas? I feel like that entire genre of internet stories has faded away over the years. Maybe that’s just how I feel though, I don’t know.

One layer down, time to get into the stones - not yet, we hear a sheep from above. WWW - world wide web? Nah, we want wool! Now we continue with the first stone layer - and as we do that we realize that if we don’t place the ladder further down we will sooner or later trap ourselves down there, which wouldn’t be cool. We quickly break our pickaxe by hammering it into the rocks, and that’s where we end the recording.

Also, starting tomorrow, you’ll hear some more music in the videos again. Also, Cellar Darling is a cool band, check them out. Swiss prog metal stuff. Very nice.
