Nurs 1200
Articulate core values and principles of the nursing profession.
Relate legal and ethical standards to the scope of practice.
Throughout this semester, I have continued to develop my professionalism in clinical practice by actively matching my behaviors with the standards and expectations to nursing standards. My commitment to remaining within the scope of practice I know has been an important area of improvement. For instance, I made sure to go over the process with my instructor before delivering a TB test, and I only administerd the exam when she was there. This shows care for patient safety, adherence to legal and ethical requirements, and knowledge of my responsibilities as a student nurse.
Feedback from my instructor showed that I able to be sen ina professional manner by being on time, wearing the proper attire and having integrity. This was particularly important when I performed a COVID-19 test inccorectly.
Instead of lying and assuming that the test came back negative, I practiced integrity by telling my instructor what had happend. From there we were able to devlop a plan which gave us safe accurate results. This event reminded me that professionalism is not about perfection, but also includes accountability and honesty,
I also saw that time management was one area that needed work. I spent too much time with a primary patient especially when the patient was at a hair cut appointment. During that time it wouldve been completly appropriate to review and evaluate my secondary patient. Through this it showed me that professionalism is setting priorities wisely and being conscious of time and patient care.

Did you stay within the scope of practice when providing care?
Yes, I stayed within my scope of practice when providing care by listening to my instructor and administering medications with my instructor in the room. For example, when administering a TB test, I was able to review the procedure with my instructor and do it with her in the room, thus staying within my scope of practice as a student nurse.

Your strengths:
Timeliness, following uniform code, staying within my scope of practice, and practicing integrity. For example, when doing a COVID-19 test, I did not follow the correct procedure. When I realized this, I was able to show professionalism through punctuality ( checking the results at the 15-minute mark ) and practicing integrity when I noticed the test had not processed correctly

Your areas for improvement and remedy to improve:
My areas for improvement are practicing better time management. Today I found myself talking to my primary patient for too long. I stayed with him during his haircut appointment when I realistically could’ve checked back on him in 15 minutes and during that time I could’ve continued chart diving or meet with my secondary patient. I will work on this my being more mindful and thinking of the future and what my timeline looks like.
