She won OHSU Teaching Awards from faculty in 2020 and students in 2021. More about Lisa
Favorite tip for getting started in qualitative research:
Trust yourself. There is a lot of uncertainty that can feel overwhelming. Be transparent when documenting your decisions and it will fall into place.

Contributors and Former Course Faculty
Adrienne Zell, PhD
Adrienne retired in December 2021 as the Director of the OHSU Evaluation Core. She was an Assistant Director for the Oregon Clinical and Translational Research Institute (OCTRI), and Director of the OCTRI Office of Research Impact at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). Dr. Zell directed the OHSU Evaluation Core, which provides evaluation support and technical assistance to academic and community-based researchers throughout Oregon.
Dr. Zell co-developed Qualitative Methods for Health Professionals and chose many of the recommended readings for the course. Her amazing tips and resources are credited throughout site, particulary coding, matrices, and visualizations.

About Adrienne Zell
L. Kris Gowen, PhD, EdM
Kris is a qualitative researcher who used to co-teach qualitative methods with us prior to 2020. She is passionate about gender and sexuality research as well as trauma-informed approaches within qualitative methods.
Dr. Gowen co-developed Qualitative Methods for Health Professionals and selected many of the recommended readings for the course. Her amazing tips and resources are credited throughout site, particularly trauma-informed practices and cultural considerations.
Lisa's core learning from Dr. Gowen:
Not all qualitative data needs to be quantified
