Global Elective Class
August 15, 2018
Starting tomorrow, the first CMS Global Exploration elective class will meet. It is an outgrowth of the CMS Global Club that I started last winter after completing the online component of my TGC Fellowship. I've been working this summer to collect lessons plans, project ideas, and resources to include in the curriculum.
To guide our work, we'll focus on the four components of a global citizen. Students will investigate the world, recognize perspectives, communicate ideas, and take action. Students will grow as digital citizens as they learn how to find and use reliable sources to follow international news and learn about other countries. They'll practice listening to different perspectives and learn how to communicate more effectively both in person and through digital media. We'll use the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a guidepost for areas that are in need of action. We'll utilize the design thinking model from IDEO and the d.school at Stanford to empathize, define problems, ideate, prototype, and test our ideas for solutions. We'll think globally and act locally as we put our ideas into practice.
We hope you'll follow along on our journey! Blog posts can be found on this website. Our social media content can be found on Twitter and Instagram at @AndMyMom.
