Global Education Frameworks and Assessment Tools


The Global Competence Grade-Level Indicators, developed by the Partnership for 21st Century Skills, provide indicators for grade levels K-12 for the the areas of student understanding, investigating, connecting, and integrating. Teachers will appreciate the checklists of specific traits to watch for students to demonstrate. Available as a PDF Teacher Guide, use the table of contents to locate your grade level, competencies, indicators, and checklist.


Located at the bottom of the webpage link, the Global Competence Outcomes and Rubrics provide content area specific guidance for leadership, mathematics, science, arts, social studies, and language arts. Core teachers in grades K-12 will find these useful as they globalize their curriculum. PDFs are available for the leadership strand and include performance outcomes, "I can" statements, and rubrics for the four global competencies: investigate the world, recognize perspectives, communicate ideas, and take action.



The Globally Competent Learning Continuum will help teachers identify their current levels in global competence in the areas of dispositions, knowledge, and skills through an online self-reflection tool. Use the continuum to determine professional growth needs, and use the competencies to explore resources to help develop your skill set in different areas.


Access the Framework for Developing Global and Cultural Competencies to Advance Equity , Excellence and Economic Competitiveness from the International Affairs Office of the U.S. Department of Education. Research-based, this framework provides direction for the development of global and cultural competencies for preschool through postsecondary education.


From The Asia Society, this PDF defines and explains the need for global competence. It emphasizes the need for disciplinary and interdisciplinary study of topics to help students better understand global topics. Examples of student projects are included for each of the four global competencies, as well as Checklists for Teaching for Global Competence, and Matrixes for Global Competence in the Arts, English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and World Languages.
