Initial Setup:
1. Turn on the iPad using the power button on the top right back corner
2. Select English
3. Check Enable Location Services
4. Visit your campus CIT to have them program in the wireless network key
5. When asked, select “Set up as new iPad”
6. When asked about your Apple ID, select the bottom link that says “Skip this Step”
7. Agree to the Terms and Conditions
8. Select “Automatically Send” on the diagnostics screen
9. Select Start Using iPad
Setting up a Passcode: (The Passcode provides security by preventing anyone from being able to access your iPad and any data on it without the code.)
1. Select the Settings app
2. Select General from the list on the left
3. Select Passcode Lock
4. Select Enable Passcode
5. Enter a 4-digit pin (twice)
Setting up email: (If you choose to use the mail app for school email, you must enable the Passcode as outlined above. Please note: the Passcode only protects an iPad that has “gone to sleep” or been powered off. A student using your iPad unattended could access any mail account on the device.)
1. Click the Mail app at the bottom of the screen.
2. Select Microsoft Exchange Account
3. Enter your email address
4. Domain: hpisd
5. Username: Novell username (Ex: burnsk@hpisd.org)
6. Password: Novell password
7. Select Next
8. If you receive a Cannot Verify Server Identity message, Select Continue
9. In the Server field (that just appeared): owa.hpisd.org
10. Click Save (your mail will load in a few minutes)
Changing Sound Settings:
1. Select the Settings App
2. Select General from the list on the left
3. Select Sounds
4. Most people select “None” under new mail, Calendar Alerts and Reminder Alerts (otherwise the device “dings” pretty frequently).
5. Most people set Keyboard Clicks to Off
Setting up your school Apple ID:
1. If prompted about iBooks, select Download.
2. When prompted, select “Create a New Apple ID”
3. Use your hpisd email address.
4. When asked for a payment method, choose “None.” (Do NOT attach your personal credit card to this Apple ID account.)
5. Fill in Billing Address and Phone info.
6. Most people turn off email notifications
