Although February is the shortest month of the year, it is chock full of fun and exciting events and life's moments worth keeping. Many people of different cultures have filled it with more holidays than any other month of the year. While majority celebrates this month as a month of love, other countries and cultures celebrate it differently. Let's go around the world and visit a few cultures that holds February as another special month filled with traditions and festivities.
In China, February 4th is celebrated as Special Working Day where a large working population often works on long stretch of hours into the weekend. In Mexico, the 5th of February is when they celebrate their Constitution Day with picnics, music, concerts and street celebrations across the country. In Chile, February 9th is the day they celebrate the La Semana Valdiviana (Valdivian Week) where decorated boats fill the Calle-Calle River complete with street performances and fireworks. In Canada, February 13th and 20th are generally observed as Family Day. Offices are closed and school is usually cancelled during these celebrations. Another fun celebration is held in the UK, also on the 13th of February which they call Shrove or Pancake Tuesday. On this holiday, people celebrate pancake day but not only eating them, but also entering pancake races. One odd but cool tradition in the UK is also called the Mischief Night where people would go door to door in disguises to ask for Pancakes!
We can go on and on listing all these unique and fun celebrations held across the globe every month of February.
