Lawton's Own Description of SPECIAL Model

April 1988 article by Leslie Evans in Crescendo: [This] model costs a bit more, but is well worth it, made from bell-metal, sometimes called tin-bronze, or bell-bronze, which is 80% copper and 20% tin. It produces a very sonorous metal, and a different quality to the sound.

Lawton Alto 6 STAR SPECIAL (silver plated)

Notes

  1. Known to be available in 1988.

  2. Variant of the Plain, B and BB models, with the baffle, sidewalls, slope, chamber and throat as normal. SPECIAL refers to the mouthpiece material being Bell Bronze.

  3. Mouthpiece stamped on the side “SPECIAL” to indicate that it was made of Bell-Bronze. Some mouthpieces (possibly later ?) were stamped “BRONZE” instead.

  4. Marked on the side of the mouthpiece and with a sticker on the box reading “SPECIAL MODEL MADE OF BELL-BRONZE”
