เดิมพื้นที่ตำบลเทพเสด็จ อยู่ในเขตการปกครองของตำบลป่าเมี่ยง อำเภอดอยสะเก็ด จังหวัดเชียงใหม่ เมื่อมีจำนวนประชากรเพิ่มมากขึ้น ในพ.ศ.2537 จึงแยกเขตการปกครองใหม่ โดยใช้ชื่อว่า ตำบลเทพเสด็จ "กาแฟเทพเสด็จ" เป็นกาแฟอาราบิก้า สายพันธุ์ "คาติมอร์" ค่อนข้างทนทานต่อโรค ปลูกอยู่บนพื้นที่สูง
