An introduction to the Game
Language Domination is a game based learning application where a variety of players can play to improve their English. In the Language Domination game, players create their own avatar, and then play with other players. After each game, players will receive rewards such as customizable (unlock different clothing and accessories for their avatar, emotes)objects and in game currency called " Language Tickets" which they can use to purchase a variety of stuff on the "Language Market" such as customizable objects, and emotes for their avatar.
Players create an Avatar
An avatar is a representation of someone in a simulated environment. Avatars give people the opportunity to interact in their environment, and their common goal is to demonstrate a persons real or desirable attributes virtually through their character. Giving players the opportunity to create their personalized in game avatar is crucial for us because avatars provide the players with "this sense of embodiment that can enhance overall perceptual experience and engagement within the environment" (Rahill et.all., 2021,p.1). Players can personalize the avatar by getting custom outfits, and emotes. Customization of avatars is important because it has shown to increase players motivation, enjoyment, involvement, and overall positive affect in regard to game based learning.
Different game modes available
Language Domination has three game modes. Each game mode gets played on the "World of Language" map. This map consists of several different environments in which players can play and explore. The first game mode is Find the Missing Words. This game mode gets played in teams of 3-4 players. 2 teams compete against each other. Both teams are provided with the first word, one of the middle words, and last word of a passage. The teams then have to circulate the map, and find the clues on the map that will help them figure out the remaining words. Whichever team completes the secret passage (sentence) first wins the game (sentence structure game). The second game mode is The Adventure. In this game mode, you will be placed on a map with your team. Your objective is to reach from Point A to Point B by completing the language activities along the way such as “Guessing games”, complete the sentence, Idiom games, verb games etc, but there is a catch. You can only make three mistakes along the journey. After the third mistake, the tornado takes your team away and then you have to start from the beginning. The third game is The Champion Race. This game mode is very similar to “ESL adventure”, but the only difference is that you are competing with another team. Each team can have 3-4 players. Which ever team makes it through the map first wins the game.
The "World of Language" Map
In this map, players will be exploring in a variety of settings. For demonstration purposes, the avatars in the 3 screenshots below are "the Penguin", "Dog" and "Parrot". The 3 screenshots show some of the different environments players will be able to explore, engage with, and learn in the game.

In 2021, the global game-based learning market had a value of USD 10.88 Billion. The demand for game-based learning solutions has increased because consumers now want more tech based learning solutions, especially in the field of education. Game-based learning also helps the player use their critical thinking skills, it increases student engagement, collaboration skills, and gives the user the opportunity learn in an engaging learning environment. (Emergen Research). According to Allied Market Research, the game-based learning market is set to reach a valuation of USD $79.9 billion by 2031.

With Language Domination, we want to create a game-based learning experience that are effective and engaging for the players (Emerson et.all., 2020). In our game, players will be bale to communicate through an in game voice chat system, and through a chat tab where they can message each other.
