Description
Damage in composite structures is a very complex phenomenon which can occur through a different number of failure mechanisms such as fibre breakage, fibre buckling, matrix cracking, fibre-matrix debonding and delamination either combined or individually. The increasing computational resources have allowed reliable prediction of such phenomenon with a certain degree of accuracy by using the finite element method. The ASRG-ITA has been working on the development of a Finite Element based virtual testing platform that enables design of damage tolerant and damage resistant composite structures.
