Description
Fibre reinforced composite materials have enormous potential in the construction, transport and wind energy sectors because of their durability, light weight and ability to be manufactured in complex shapes. The steady increase in the use of composites has brought benefits in many areas. However, most composites use thermosetting resin matrices, which are not easily recycled because they are cross linked and cannot be remolded, in contrast to thermoplastics which can be remelted. The ASRG-ITA has been working on research projects focused on the development of recycling processes and seeking ways of effectively using recycled material in new or existing applications.
