Faculty adviser

The adviser is a journalism or English faculty member hired by the Foothill-De Anza Board of Trustees after an interview by a committee of De Anza administrators and faculty. The adviser’s role is to advise the staff on news judgment, writing and placement, content, page and web design, social media, media law, advertising, professional ethics and conduct and other journalistic principles and techniques. The adviser is present at all editorial board proceedings, but does not impose editorial positions.

The adviser maintains the classroom and lab environment and procedures. The adviser may remove the editor-in-chief at any time, and may name an acting EIC if the EIC is indisposed.

The adviser is present at all editorial board meetings, but does not control or approve content, following the College Media Association’s Professional Code of Ethics.
