Editor-in-chief

The editor-in-chief has primary responsibility for the news and editorial content of La Voz News. The EIC:

  • Coordinates activities resulting in the publication of La Voz in print and online.

  • Represents La Voz both on and off campus.

  • Ensures adequate coverage of campus news.

  • Ensures that staff members maintain the La Voz Code of Ethics while performing their duties.

  • Ensures the newsroom is run in a professional manner.

  • Consults with fellow editors and the faculty adviser when in doubt about the facts or presentation of a story; is alert to the possibility of libel.

  • Ensures immediate correction of any published factual misstatement.

  • Is ultimately responsible for all La Voz content, including multimedia and online.

  • Oversees placement of stories in print and online, coordinates special assignments and ensures timely assignment of photos and stories.

  • Determines number of pages for each issue, based on number of advertisements, budget and news priority.

  • Presides over the editorial board or appoints the managing or a section editor as chair.

  • Understands the finances of La Voz and consults with the adviser on financial matters.
