The competent teacher is an ethical and reflective practitioner who exhibits professionalism; provides leadership in the learning community; and advocates for students, parents or guardians, and the profession.
The above item is an interview that i conducted with an educator regarding teacher evaluations for my Methods for Special Educators course. The goal for this assignment was to take the information we learned recently about the Danielson's Framework for Teaching and further our understanding about teacher evaluations and the processes teachers may go thorugh during an evaluation through a conversation I had with a teachers.
I believe that this interview connects with the Illinois Professional Teaching Standard 9 which claims "The competent teacher is an ethical and reflective practitioner who exhibits professionalism; provides leadership in the learning community; and advocates for students, parents or guardians, and the profession". Within this assignment, I have shown the importance of a teachers reflection on thier own professional growth in the scope of being evaluated by thier boss or principle and the importance of self-reflection before and after an evaluation takes place.
From talking to the teacher about how evaluations work and how important they are, it was beyond helpful for me since I have never really discussed with a teacher about how important evaluations are and how I need to prepare for the evaluation in the future. I remember back in the day in high school, we would have people come into the classroom to evaluate the teacher and i just remember how the teachers would always tell us we have to be on our best behavior or else. I did not think about how important it was as a teacher before this interview and now I fully understand now.
The above item is a parent interview that I had to do for my Critical Issues in Special Education class. The goal for this assignment was to interview one of my parents and question them about how I was in school as a chlf compared to how I am now and understand how my parents roles were such as helping me or making sure I did my work.
I believe this interview connects with The Illinois Teaching Standard 9 which talks about "Develops relationships with parents and guardians to acquire an understanding of the students' lives outside of the school in a professional manner that is fair and equitable". Within this assignment I have shown what my home like was like from my parents perspective from whether they were talking to one of my teachers about my grades or whether or not I was doing or not doing my assignments.
From talking with my parents about how much they did for me in and outside of school, I know how important it is to have tha help from parents. Some students won't take advantage of getting help from their parents when they are there to answer any question. Thinking back to Jr. High when I was diagnosed with ADHD, I realize how much my parents helped me and collaborated with my teachers to help me in class and I could not be more greatful.
