The competent teacher understands the diverse characteristics and abilities of each student and how individuals develop and learn within the context of their social, economic, cultural, linguistic, and academic experiences. The teacher uses these experiences to create instructional opportunities that maximize student learning.
For this activity, I had to create a recess activity that provides different activities and games for students with disabilities.
This activity connects with learning standard 1 which states, "The competent teacher understands the diverse characteristics and abilities of each student and how individuals develop and learn within the context of their social, economic, cultural, linguistic, and academic experiences". This connects to the learning standard becuase it talks about how these students will learn to play and participate in these different activities that have accomodations for each of them.
This is important becuase all of these games have differentn accomodations that every student can participate in. Having these accomodations are important becuase this way, no one is left out and that everyone can be apart of the game or activity with their classmates or friends.
This artifact was for my EDUC 319 course. I had to create a presentation on a disability that was given to me, explain it and incorporate different strategies and accomodations that go along with students with this specific disability.
This assignment relates to learning standard 1 which states, "The competent teacher understands the diverse characteristics and abilities of each student and how individuals develop and learn within the context of their social, economic, cultural, linguistic, and academic experiences. The teacher uses these experiences to create instructional opportunities that maximize student learning". This connects because we are diving deeper into what spina bifida is and we have different methods that we can use or incorporate in the classroom to accomodate these students.
This is important becuase we will have many different kind of students in our classes with different forms of disabilities and we need to understand how to work with and accomodate to their needs. Without having these strategies, our students who may have spina bifida, will not be able to learn as well compared to the other students.
