“Heading Home”

by Julia Stuempel Feb 2023

My inspiration was a recent trip to the Caribbean, where the endless beaches and the turquoise coloured ocean are mesmerizing. I wanted to capture their tranquility and beauty while adding an element of whimsy. I attempted this with texture and newly hatched turtles struggling to find their way home.

My Love of a Beach

By Brenda Dunsmore

19.25” x 15”

photos on fabric, machine appliqué, machine quilting

One of my favourite pastimes is walking a beach. From the time I was little, beaches have always fascinated me. The 3 photos were taken in PEI last summer. They represent the 3 things I love – looking for shells in the seaweed, watching the various birds, and making sandcastles.

February 2023 Meeting and Sew & Tell

February Program was a touring exhibit created by the Fibre Art Network (FAN), a group of Western Canadian fibre artists. It consisted of 88 small quilted pieces, each a personal interpretation of the theme, For the Birds.  The quilters could depict any aspect of a bird's life, interests and interactions with the world it inhabits; or the work could be inspired by the many bird-related idioms and adages.  Here are a few of the photos (please excuse the quality as they were encased in plastic).
