Membership Committee The Membership Committee consists of Chair, Jocelyn Daye and Co-Chair Jeannie Lane. Bev Day will help maintain the excel spreadsheet. The committee is responsible for keeping track of the membership of the guild.
A spreadsheet for each year is set up and maintained monthly, keeping rack of members who have paid, new members, delinquent members and those not returning. Reminder emails are sent out to the members prior to when dues are to be paid. Reminder emails are also sent to those members who are late in remitting their dues. The committee also confirms with those members who are not returning and then they will be removed from the list. The dues are to be paid ($25.00) in the spring months prior to the September to May year. The dues do not cover the workshops or the annual Christmas and year end dinners.
At the start of the monthly meetings at least 2 of the committee members are to arrive at the hall about 20-30 minutes prior to the meeting. For those months when dues are being paid, having all 3 committee members at the table is best as it is very busy. They set up a table for members to sign in for attendance. All guests are also asked to sign in and they are given a welcome from the guild. An up-to-date membership list is available so members can check if their information is correct. For those new members, there are tag kits, welcome letters, and membership cards available.
After each meeting the spreadsheet is updated and sent to the Communications/Information Chair with the changes flagged. An updated spreadsheet is also to be archived on the One Drive site.
The committee chair attends the executive meetings. If she is unavailable, one of the other committee members is to attend in her place. The chair will also write up an annual report for the year end executive meeting.
Chair - Carla Carvalho
Traditionally, a general meeting of the KVQG has a business component and a non-business component. After the opening words from the president and the business at hand, there is a Show and Tell and a program unique to that meeting.
The goal of the program committee is to plan this unique activity. For several years, the committee has consisted of two to four volunteers. Depending on the members, there may be overlap from one committee to the next and members serve for at least two years. There is a long range component to the planning as well as an immediate logistical planning.
Long range planning takes into consideration factors such as interests of guild members and historically popular activities, ideas that are trending nationally and internationally, length of presentation, presenter(s), and possibly budget support. Each committee has the freedom to put its own stamp on the program. For example, the current committee has supported Show and Tell by helping with quilt display and giving the quilter more voice. Experience has shown that the committee needs to be flexible with the annual plan and have at least one backup activity that uses a local presenter. Situations such as the 2020 pandemic require more flexibility and cooperation with the full executive.
Planning and execution of each activity require cooperation and/or delegation so that presenter's needs are met and members are notified. This could mean that one committee member is in charge, or that all have a role.
Special guild meetings such as those in December and June require input from the program committee in conjunction with the entire executive.
Chair - Janet McLaughlin
Doris Mowry was a member of the Kennebecasis Valley Quilting Guild who was an expert hand quilter with wonderful colour sense. She passed away in 2002 and bequeathed to our Guild monies to be used to teach Colour and Design techniques when making quilts.
This Committee oversees these funds and works with the Guild to bring in teachers who can further members’ expertise in colour and design aspects of quilting. This Committee also works with the Workshop Committee to facilitate bringing in teachers.
The Doris Mowry Committee is made up of up to nine members. Current members include Janet Mclaughlin, Joan Van Wart, Linda Beyea, Joey Gaines, Ann Perry, Catherine McGavney, Carol Condon. If anyone is interested in joining the Committee, please let us know. The Committee canvasses members to gain an understanding of what skills/courses they would find interesting and useful, and sources teachers who are interested in giving classes to Guild members. In the past, the Committee has facilitated bringing in Kathy Tidswell, Jayne Willowby-Scott, Joen Wolfrom, Pippa Moore, Lynn Edwards, and Anne Morrell Robinson. Members of the committee include:

The goal of this committee is to provide members with the opportunity to participate in quilt teaching workshops. The type of teaching is anything and everything related to quilting. It can run the gamut of a specific project, a technique, a style, or any combination thereof. The instructors typically come from within the province and often are our own very talented members.
The committee is generally comprised of 2-3 members (currently Mary, Valerie Hopper & Kim Zwicker). We will suggest and get feedback from guild members as to what quilting topics/projects they would like to explore. Many of our classes has been a result of the inspiration and creativity we see at our Sew & Tell portion of our monthly meetings.
We offer full days (6 hours) workshops on both weekdays and weekends. Occasionally the workshop may be half-day only. Class size does depend on location but typically is 10 attendees for the Quilt Corner and 15 to 20 attendees for other locations. One can expect 1-2 workshops offered most months (October to June) . Workshops schedules are announced at monthly meeting as well as on our website.
On a more practical nature, the committee recruits instructors and attendees, schedules the workshops, books the location, ensures location is opened and closed appropriately, helps set-up for the instructor when needed, collects payment, maintains record keeping of same, submits payments to guild treasurer, and provides updates of workshops in a timely manner to members and submits yearend report to guild executive.
In more recent years we have also organized Sew-Days where members simply come together for the day for the joy of spending time together quilting. These days are also inspirational and provide an unexpected opportunity to learn as we all bring our own particular talents and projects in progress.
We also foster our love of quilting by providing Beginners and Intermediate Workshops for our members that run as 2-hour once weekly sessions for 8 weeks. The Beginners Workshop is advertised at our Annual Show where we hope to encourage more people to join the wonderful world of quilting.
