The courses listed below are required for undergraduate international students admitted through the Special Admission for International Students.
To graduate, students must complete both the courses listed below and the graduation requirements specified by their respective departments.
For information on graduation requirements and mandatory courses other than Korean language courses, please consult your department office directly.
Mandatory Courses Based on TOPIK Level at Admission
A. Korean Language for International Students 1 (12 credits)
Required for newly admitted students who have not submitted a TOPIK Level 4 or higher certificate.
B. Korean Language for International Students 2 (6 credits)
Required for transfer students who have not submitted a TOPIK Level 4 or higher certificate.
Exemptions
Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP/GKS) recipients and international students sponsored by their home governments are exempt from the Korean language course requirement for international students.
Exception (Spring Semester 2025 Freshmen Only):
Students who have completed Level 6 of a regular Korean language program at Konkuk University or at another certified university under the Education Internationalization Capacity Certification System are exempt from the Korean language course requirement.
Transfer students are not required to take general education courses.
However, if a student is required to take Korean Language for International Students 2, this course—although classified as a general education course—must be completed as a mandatory requirement.
Students are required to complete major-required and/or elective courses in accordance with the graduation requirements set by their respective departments.

Students are required to complete 15 credits as follows:
1 course in the Foreign Language area
1 course in the Writing area
1 course in the Career Development & Employment area
2 courses in the Software area
(Computational Thinking & Problem Solving through Programming)
1 course in the Character Education area (Social Service 1 or Social Service 2)
Notes
Students may not enroll in foreign language courses that correspond to their native language
(e.g., Chinese students may not take “College Chinese”).

International students are not required to take the designated required general education course “CSP Career Exploration.”
※ International students are required to enroll in courses that correspond exactly to the course titles listed below.
Failure to take courses designated as “(International)” may result in not fulfilling graduation requirements.
For example, if a student is required to take “Critical Thinking and Discussion (International)” but instead enrolls in “Critical Thinking and Discussion”, or if “Humanities and Social Sciences Writing (International)” is required but “Humanities and Social Sciences Writing” is taken,
the course will NOT be recognized as a required course, even though the course titles appear similar.
A. Basic General Education
Basic General Education (6 Courses)
① Basic General Education courses are mandatory, and students must complete a minimum of 12 credits.
② “Basic Korean Learning and Conversation” is a required course; however, students may be exempt from taking this course if they pass “Korean Language for International Students 1.”
In this case, no credits will be awarded for the exemption. Therefore, students must complete an additional 3 credits from either Basic General Education or Advanced General Education courses.
If a student chooses, they may take both “Basic Korean Learning and Conversation” and “Korean Language for International Students 1.”
However, if the student does not pass “Basic Korean Learning and Conversation,” the exemption will not be granted, even if “Korean Language for International Students 1” is passed.
③ “Basic Korean Writing and Expression” may be taken only by students who have passed either “Basic Korean Learning and Conversation” or “Korean Language for International Students 1.”
Students are required to complete at least 12 credits (6 courses) as follows:

A. Basic General Education
① Students must complete a minimum of 15 credits by fulfilling the following required courses:
3 courses from the Korean Language (General Education Korean) area
1 course from the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Culture area
1 course from the Diversity and Inclusion area
② The three courses in the Korean Language (General Education Korean) area are conducted as level-based classes, determined by the results of a placement test administered during the first class session. Therefore, attendance at the first class is mandatory.
Students are required to complete a minimum of 12 credits by taking at least two courses in each of the following areas:
Critical Thinking Enhancement area: 2 or more courses
Academic Literacy and Character Development area: 2 or more courses
Global Talent Development area: 2 or more courses

Global Talent Development → Leading Global Citizens
A. Currently enrolled students who have completed registration for the regular semester immediately preceding the vacation period.
B. Students on a leave of absence who have not exceeded the maximum period of study.
Students on a leave of absence may register for up to 3 credits only.
Even if students on a leave of absence fulfill graduation requirements through the seasonal semester, they must return to school and register for at least one regular semester in order to graduate.

A. Courses offered during the regular semester immediately preceding the vacation period may be offered again; however, courses may be canceled depending on enrollment numbers.
B. There are no restrictions on course classification (all course categories are eligible).
KRW 85,000 per credit
A. Grades earned during the seasonal semester are counted toward graduation credit requirements and are included in the cumulative GPA.
However, they are not reflected in regular semester GPA calculations nor considered for scholarship selection criteria.
B. Even if a student has taken or is currently taking the same course during a regular semester (including seasonal semesters), duplicate enrollment is permitted during the seasonal semester.
If previously earned credits are not waived, the course will be classified as a duplicate course:
Only one course’s credits will be counted toward total earned credits, but
Both grades will be included in the cumulative GPA.
After seasonal semester grades are officially recorded, students may choose to waive earned credits during the designated credit waiver period.
C. For graduating students, seasonal semester grades are included in graduation assessment, and students may graduate upon passing the assessment.
February graduation candidates: Grades from the immediately preceding Winter Session are applied.
August graduation candidates: Grades from the immediately preceding Summer Session are applied.
