Under the Korean Immigration Control Act, foreign nationals who fail to carry their Alien Registration Card may be subject to a fine of up to KRW 1,000,000.
If a student departs Korea after completing alien registration but before receiving the Alien Registration Card, the visa may be cancelled.
Therefore, students are strongly advised not to leave Korea until the Alien Registration Card has been issued.
If you must leave Korea before receiving the card, please consult the Immigration Office in advance for confirmation and guidance.
Reissuance of an Alien Registration Card (ARC) is required in the following cases:
The Alien Registration Card has been lost or missing
The Alien Registration Card has been damaged or worn out and is no longer usable
There is insufficient space on the card to record required information
Registered information on the Alien Registration Card has changed (name, gender, date of birth, or nationality)

Applications for an Extension of Period of Stay must be submitted from four months before the expiration date up to the date of expiration.
(If an application is submitted after the period of stay has expired, a penalty fee will be imposed.)
Undergraduate international students may apply as a group through the International Student Center.
However, group applications are NOT permitted in the following cases.

1) Subjects of Administrative Review
Violation of reporting obligations
Address: Failure to report a change of address within 14 days after moving
Passport: Failure to report passport changes within 44 days after a new passport is issued in Korea
Educational institution: Failure to report a change of school before the start of the semester when transferring to another university
Violation of status of stay
Engaging in employment activities (e.g., part-time work) without prior permission
Criminal offenses
Involvement in criminal acts such as assault, fraud, theft, or other violations of law
2) Subjects of Detailed Examination
Having a semester with a GPA of 1.0 or lower within the past year (even if the cumulative GPA is 2.0 or higher)
Having four or more F grades within the past year (even if the cumulative GPA is 2.0 or higher)

When a registered foreign national changes their place of residence, they must report the change within 14 days to one of the following authorities:
The head of the Si/Gun/Gu office of the new address, or
The head of the competent Immigration Office, Immigration Branch Office, or Service Office.
A report is required even if only the room number changes, such as within a dormitory or within the same building.
A fine will be imposed if the change of address is reported more than 14 days after the contract date stated on the housing lease agreement.
The change of address must be reported in advance before applying for an extension of period of stay.

A. Cases Requiring a Re-entry Permit
Students who are required to obtain a re-entry permit due to entry restrictions or related reasons must apply for a re-entry permit at the Immigration Office having jurisdiction over their place of residence.

International students who have completed alien registration and intend to re-enter Korea after more than one year but within two years must apply for a re-entry permit at the competent Immigration Office.

B. Exemption from Re-entry Permit Application
International students who have completed alien registration are exempt from applying for a re-entry permit if they re-enter Korea within one year from the date of departure.
When visiting an Immigration Office, it is mandatory to make an appointment in advance through the https://www.hikorea.go.kr website.
Please note that services will not be provided without a prior appointment.
In addition, all required documents must be prepared in advance before the visit, as there may be time limitations for document submission and processing.

Sign up for membership and log in (Non-members may also apply.)
Select Visit Reservation.
Click Visit Reservation Application (Immigration).
Complete the application form.
Select the competent Immigration Office.
Choose the service counter category (General Nationalities, Chinese Nationals, Visa, Nationality, etc.).
Enter the visitor’s personal information and visit details (name, contact information, type of service, visit date and time, purpose of visit).
Submit the application, attach required documents, and print the receipt.
Visit the Immigration Office on the reserved date with the printed receipt.
The queue number shown on the receipt will be displayed on the monitor and called for service.

When applying for the above services through the online electronic civil service system, applications can be processed more quickly, and there is no need to visit the Immigration Office in person.
Access the HiKorea website (www.hikorea.go.kr).
Register for membership and log in.
Select Civil Service Application → Electronic Civil Services.
Click Electronic Civil Service Application.
Select the desired service and click the Electronic Civil Service button.
Enter your Alien Registration Number and full name.
Submit the application.
Pay the required processing fee.
Upload the required documents.
Check the processing status and results (My Page → Electronic Civil Service Application Status).
