1-What is the hardest part of working in a diverse environment?
I think the hardest part for me would be, first, the words that are used to name objects or food, as not all cultures will use the same vocabulary and can be confused at first; second, belief and values, to learn to accept and understand that your beliefs and values are not necessarily the "correct" ones, and that it's okay to dissagree but with respect.
2-How do you approach understanding the perspective of a coworker whose background differs from yours?
I would ask questions about where or from whom or what happened to that person to get into that perspective, and establish a conversation that goes beyond the initial topic, and hopefully, that way I would get to understand a bit of the person's perspective, and try to agree on the initial topic. I would not fully understand the person's perspective because I'm not the one who lived their life, but at least try.
3-Can you share with us what diversity and inclusion mean to you? Why do you think they are essential?
For me, diversity is the presence of different identities, including people with diverse perspectives due to their culture and beliefs. Inclusion is the practice where those differences are heard, respected, and able to influence decisions and outcomes. It's essential because it drives better decisions and innovations, ensuring fairness and a better connection with communities and individuals.
4-How would you manage an incident where a coworker said sexist, racist, or prejudiced statements?
I'd make sure to remove people from harm and create a safe environment for them. Then, I'd briefly address their statement and maybe ask them to reflect on what they say. Finally, I'd report this incident to HR or other formal authorities because this behavior should not be acceptable.
5-How do you plan to enhance your understanding and knowledge of DEI?
I will read research and lived-experience writing, maybe joint forums to know different perspectives from the same topic, practice inclusive behaviors at work, and solicit feedback.
6-How do you eliminate biased behaviors from your daily work?
I'd probably use brief and firm language to name the behavior and its impact. After an incident, I'd offer learning resources that I use to keep learning about these kinds of topics. Invite feedback from affected colleagues and support them.

It is important to read about how diversity and inclusion work nowadays, and if you do not know, always treat people with respect and ask what they feel more comfortable with, whether vocabulary, facilities, etc., so you can establish a better connection and environment with the other person.
