The Crimson Calamity
The Crimson Calamity
In the year 1999 AF a great calamity struck, one that nearly ended the world as we know it. But what was this calamity, and where did it come from? That will be discussed today. The event known as the crimson calamity involved a gigantic meteor crashing into the capital of Nogarde, Acadia, spreading debris all across the world. Not only that, but the meteor also contained a large amount of monsters called “terrors” inside. The meteor landing along with the unexpected threat of terrors killed 95% of all life on the planet, nearly ending the world.
The source of the meteor was the first of many Archons, incarnations of Elzakalas' hatred, that have plagued Zurtara throughout the ages. His name was Baetylus, Archon of Wrath. Baetylus appears as a gigantic meteor with a face, burning with infernal rage. This being was responsible for the lives of billions, but for the longest time we did not know the source. The meteor was summoned by a group of 12 adventurers who were tricked by Knoll, the so-called “Voice of Elzakalas”, into performing the ritual to summon the meteor in hopes that their friend, Emily, would be able to return home to her own time.
Facing them was the Council of Six, a group of six powerful alfar rulers who presided over the Kingdom of Nogarde during that time. Nocturna was their leader, a devious drow strategist who manipulated everything behind the scenes in order to get revenge on her arch nemesis Lumina, and was also the one to create the shadow amulets that eventually led to the fall of Arcadia. The council of six was defeated and the ritual was performed, but that only released the voice from her prison of the shadow amulet who then proceeded to summon the crimson meteor to destroy the world. The majority of those warriors perished, including Emily, who was sent through time by the shadow amulet in order to cause these events to take place. However, Emily’s spirit was recovered by the goddess of creation Barbello, who restored her body and sent her back to her own time where she proceeded to destroy the shadow amulet, removing Knoll’s influence from the world forever.
Overall, the Crimson Calamity was one of the most deadly events in all of Zutara’s history, and if it wasn’t for the actions of 6 brave heroes, it might have happened again…
