Migraine and Headache Awareness Month

Migraine and headaches affects millions of people worldwide, make them one of the most common neurological disorders. Migraine in particular, can be debilitating and greatly impact the quality of life for those who suffer from it. To help raise awareness and promote the understanding about these conditions, Migraine and Headache Awareness month is used to help form educational opportunities, and create campaigns for it.

A migraine is a chronic neurological disorder that is characterized by intense headaches that occur every so often. These headaches can cause nausea and sometime visual disturbances. Approximately 15% of the world experiences migraines, with more women than men. Headaches, however, can happen in any variety and to any gender.

Migraines and headaches are more than just discomfort for a specific amount of time. They also impact a person's physical and emotional well being. Not only is a headache and migraine painful, it is also irritating and annoying to get consistently making it hard to finish work and be your normal self in a public setting. These conditions can make people go into depression and be in a state of sadness and irritation.

Furthermore, migraines and headaches place a burden on society as a whole. The direct and indirect costs associated with theses conditions include medical expenses, loss of work hours, and decreased economic productivity. By raising awareness, we can highlight the importance of investing in research, support services and adequate medical care for individuals affected by migraines and headaches.

This month hopes to promote education, support, advocacy, and prevention of migraines. During this month there are multiple informational campaign, support groups, fundraisers, and public lectures and seminars.
