Knomee 3.1 & Quest Wizard
1. Introduction
Knomee 3.1 is now available on the AppStore. A number of bugs and problems have been fixed/ removed:
Task management is improved to avoid making the interface unresponsive when you enter a new measure (something that was rare but a real pain). Knomee 3.1 is more fluid and efficient.
Scoring is now simpler and more homogeneous. The Dataviz screen (below the main screen) shows you the scoring of factors, with associated explainations. Let us remember that the score tells about the possibility of causation for one tracker to your quest target, factoring possible delays or cumulative effects.
The quest library has been cleaned-up (with factor types re-catagorized properly)
On-boarding has been simplified : the tutorial mode of the main screen was confusing for many first-comer so it is now gone.
But this is not the important piece of news about Knomee 3.1, the true breakthrough is the introduction of a new feature called the quest Wizard.
2. Quest Wizard
Let us recall from the previous news post that quests are made up of one to four trackers, which are the values that you want to track. Knomee is based on quests (one target tracker and one to three factor trackers) to help you detect causal links in your self-tracking.
A quest is a causal hypothesis that you make about yourself, and Knomee helps you to validate or invalidate that hypothesis. Quests are not obvious, you find the best quest through iteration, by observing the score of your factors and adding/removing trackers as you go.
The Quest Wizard is a feature that is here to help you ! If you ask Knomee, on the quest editing screen, Knomee will look at all your other trackers and tell you if some of them have better explanation scores !
To get access to the wizard:
You go to the home screen (small home icon on the bottom right of the main screen)
You select your quest (big rectangle button on the top left, where the name of the current screen shows)
you then click on "Edit" to get to your quest editor
If your quest has enough measures (more than 40), the "Wizard" menu button will appear (if not, keep using Knomee with your quest until you have accumulated enough data)
When you press the Wizard button, Knomee will think for a few seconds and present you an alert with the following information (see picture on the left):
The top part is a summary of the information (that you also see in the Dataviz screen) about your trackers, that are the scores of each three factor trackers. In this example, the target of the quest is HRV (Heart Rate Variability) and the three possible factors are ARHR (average rest heart rate), the amount of cholesterol in diet and the the current value of the rest heart rate
the second part of the alert shows some other trackers that have a better explanation score for HRV than the least of the previous 3 (ARHR = 30%). For instance, O2 level is a better predictor (proper breathing is critical, otherwise you heart gets more tired for the same effort).
Deciding which tracker would be a good substitution for your quest is up to you. As a reminder, to change a factor tracker in a quest you need to delete the current measures associated to this quest. So this is not something that you should do often, more every 2-3 months.
3. Conclusion
Knomee 3 is very much a new product with a focus on the concept of quest network. Two major breakthroughs were introduced in a year:
Tracker reuse : reusing trackers (one same tracker) for two different quests allows you to explore different causal hypothesis. Remember that a quest is an hypothesis that you make, such as, "to sleep better", I should go to bed earlier, drink less coffee and have a lighter dinner.
Tracker Wizard: Knomee now helps you to change a tracker or two after a few months of self-tracking, assuming that you are tracking many quests (exploring many dimensions of yourself).
Apple Watch and HealthKit integration: year after year, this capacity of Knomee has improved (more data is available from Heathkit and the import is running more smoothly). This is critical to help you discover new factors that may be significant to your quest.
Knomee is 7 years old. Our motto is "tracking with sense" and has not changed. We believe that self-tracking is good for you, but that without a causal hypothesis, it gets boring very fast. The concept of quest is central to Knomee but many of you have found it hard to manage. Knomee 3 makes it easier to experiment with different quests, and the quest Wizard helps you to grow more significant quests, that is to learn more about yourself.
More than ever, Knomee is a tool for self-discovery.
