What Influenced My Decision
In this section I will be talking about why I decide to research the topic called digital phenotyping. I took the liberty to delve deeper into who, what, when, where, how, and why digital phenotyping became so important and its meaning for society. Even though, I originally knew nothing about emerging technology and its significance, my professor Mrs. Noone pushed not only myself but the entire CSIT 101 class to step outside of our comfort zones. So that is what I did! As I began inquiring more about digital phenotyping, I realized that this topic aligns well with my major which is psychology. Honestly, what I love most about this topic, is how digital phenotyping represents the combination of technology and psychology. And for me that’s a win, simply because I love psychology and I truly enjoy learning news ways to enhance the way society views mental health and what better way than through technology.

One fun fact that I found very interesting is how the use of digital phenotyping can determine a person’s mental stability. It’s crazy how smartphones and wearable devices can collect a person’s data just by a person typing on a keyboard, sleeping, and/or actively communicating with others. The fact that digital phenotyping helps researchers pinpoint those specific changes which signals an early mental health concern such as stress, anxiety and even depression is truly impressive. Like really think about this, digital phenotyping has the ability to show exactly how behavioral patterns can operate almost if not just like a moment‑to‑moment health monitoring tool. Truthfully, digital phenotyping gives those same healthcare providers the access to develop a more in‑depth perspective on the psychological well‑being of their patients rather than relying solely on scheduled appointments and/or personal reports.
Lesson Learned
I can say that throughout this section, I have learned so much especially when it comes to understanding the term “Emerging Technology”. Before taking this CSIT 101 class, I had no idea how in-depth the topic of technology went. However, what was known to me was that technology had definitely evolved over the years, just not to this magnitude. Seeing this with my own eyes completely shifted my perspective of why understanding technology is so important, and frankly I believe that this is one of the greatest lessons learned.
