Mi'kma'ki

Nova Scotia is located on Mi'kma'ki, the unceded land of the Mi'kmaw people. Kjipuktuk, called Halifax by settlers, provides clean and fresh water through it's many springs, and hosts a great diversity of both marine and terrestrial life. University of King's College is subject to the Peace and Friendship Treaties of the 1700s, which are still upheld and refer not to the surrender of land by the Mi'kma'ki, but the continued coexistance and relations between settlers and Indigenous people. Mi'kma'ki, along with many other territories in "Canada", are often referred to as unceded, meaning forcefully taken from the Mi'kmaq.

Wondering what to expect before arriving at King’s?

The King’s Orientation Online Course is now available and is your guide to settling in before you even step on campus, with practical tips, helpful resources and answers to questions you may not have thought to ask. Students can also connect with King’s community through discussion boards, ask questions and learn more about getting involved.

Students who complete the Knowledge Check quiz with a score of 80% or higher by Friday, September 4, 2026 will be entered into a draw for a $150 VISA gift card!
