Variant found in Waltz the Hall. It credits 1939 publication The Singin' Gatherin' Tunes from the Southern Appalachians which is unfortunately not available digitally at this time.
Found mention of "Paw Paw Patch" in the The Ingalls Wilder Family Songbook listed as an alternate title for "Old John Brown." The melody certainly seems to match, although, after researching play parties, a large majority start this way (do do do do mi so mi do, re re re re ti re ti so) as it's easy to play on the fiddle.
