Question: What's the best way to contact you with questions?
Question: My child has a C! What can I do to fix it?
Answer: Don't worry. Unlike traditional grading systems, the AFNR grading system is structured to be encouraging rather than punitive. As your child does more work, their grade will go up to encourage and reward hard work rather than losing points for not completing assignments.
Question: Do you accept late work?
Answer: Late work is not accepted unless the work is late due to an excused absence
Question: Is there extra credit?
Answer: Generally no.
Question: Is membership to FFA mandatory for participation in AFNR?
Answer: All AFNR students are members of the FFA by virtue of being enrolled in an AFNR course. However, participation in the FFA competitions is not required in the first year of AFNR class. The AFNR coursework and FFA competitions complement each other, so participating in the competitions will help students to get more out of the class. There is a nominal membership fee, but the payment system for the 2026-2027 school year is new and different, so Ms. Doran needs to research it more. Will let everyone know more when she figures it out.
Question: My child has an SAE project how can I support them?
Answer: It depends on the project topic. The Kalani AFNR facility currently operates about a dozen different components [this feels like the wrong word but I don't want to reuse "project"] that can be carried out as an SAE. These projects will not require any financial input or assistance from individuals outside of the Kalani AFNR program. However, students are also allowed to choose their own project topics, with approval from Ms. Doran. For these types of projects, a student may need outside assistance, such as funds to purchase supplies and equipment.
Question: I picked one path of study in AFNR but now I want to switch tracks. Can I do that?
Answer: Yes, that can be done. Please talk to Ms. Doran and your grade-level counselor to process the paperwork.
