"Agriculture is the art and science of cultivating the soil, growing crops and raising livestock. It includes the preparation of plant and animal products for people to use and their distribution to markets" (NationalGeographic.org).
In Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR), we seek to develop our understanding of how issues within sustainability, science, and culture interconnect, and how they collectively impact our society's ability to equitably provide essential goods and services for our planet's growing population. The ultimate question that we continually try to use our class activities to answer is "What can the community do to make efficient use of declining resources?"
Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources is the gateway to a wide array of industries and careers! From plant and animal science to food production to agricultural business to environmental conservation to agricultural mechanics, practically any career will connect to agriculture in a meaningful way. Although career opportunities are always important to consider in any industry, there are also many fun and healthy activities and hobbies that stem from agricultural pursuits, such as gardening, fiber crafts, and Maker projects.
