A career and technology based education will help your child to be more than just an average student. Career and technology education can give your child what’s needed to succeed for life: technical skills, academic skills and employability skills. In addition, career and technical education helps students see how what they’re learning applies to the needs of employers.
Anyone may join first year program of study courses for Culinary Arts, Digital Design, Engineering, Entrepreneurship and Natural Resources.
*You must be at least a sophomore in order to enroll in the first year Health Services Pathway course.
It is a Hawaii State Board of Education Honors Recognition Certificate.
1. Included in your transcript which may benefit you when applying for colleges and/or scholarships.
2. Invited and recognized at the Senior Awards Night event.
3. Physical CTE Honors Recognition Certificate.
4. Recognition mark on your graduation program.
Students pursuing CTE Honors must complete two sequential courses within the same CTE program of study by the end of their senior year of high school. However, the two courses are allowed to be in non-consecutive years. The six programs of study available at Kalani High School are: Culinary Arts, Digital Design, Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Human Performance Therapeutic Services and Natural Resources. A student in any of these programs of study has the opportunity to achieve CTE Honors.
Requirements:
Year 1: Must get a "B" or better in the pathway course.
Year 2: Must get a "B" or better + Project-Based Assessment
*PBA is only offered to seniors in the Health Services Pathway
Senior Year: Student must have a 3.0 GPA by late April of their senior year.
To earn CTE Honors you must complete two sequential courses in a designated pathway, meet or exceed proficiency on a performance-based assessment (PBA includes the following components: technical writing, oral presentation and product task) and achieve a 3.0 cumulative grade point average by late April of your senior year.
Here are the steps:
1. By late April, designated pathway CTE teachers compile a list of their seniors who have met all CTE Honors requirements.
2. The completed list is sent to the CTE Coordinator.
3. The Registrar and CTE Coordinator will then verify and submit the final overall CTE Honors list to the State CTE Office and the senior class counselor(s).
