As part of our club's mission, we believe Amateur radio awareness is important because it's a valuable tool for community building and a vital lifeline during emergencies when traditional systems fail. Key aspects include: helping the public understand amateur radio, its role in public service and emergency response. Public awareness is also about showing the wide range of the hobby, from traditional morse code through to more recent and technical side of amateur radio (including digital modes).
During public events, we offer literature, detailed explanations of any topic of interest, and demonstrations of our ability to communicate 'on the air'. We provide handouts of literature and items (such as keychains) targeted to all ages. We are especially pleased to offer youth 'on the air' experiences. And, of course, our regular meetings are always open to the public.
Our involvement in POTA (Parks on the Air) at various dates, and participation in Public Service events like the MS-150 bicycle ride allow us to further demonstrate our mission to the public.
