The Carranza Memorial is a significant landmark located in Wharton State Forest, New Jersey, honoring the legacy of Captain Emilio Carranza, a noted Mexican aviator. On July 12, 1928, Captain Carranza tragically crashed while on a goodwill flight from New York City to Mexico City, as part of a mission to foster goodwill between the United States and Mexico.
On the 2nd Saturday in July Mount Holly Post #11 of the American Legion hosts a memorial service at 1300 EDT at the crash site. Each year his untimely death is honored by this ceremony. Dignitaries from both the US and Mexico are typically present to preside over the event.
The Burlington County Radio Club (www.k2td-bcrc.org) obtains the special callsign N2M, and operates from the week prior thru to this memorial service date.
A commemorative certificate will be available to confirm contacts. QSO's will be uploaded to LOTW. Contacts may count toward the Jersey Devil Award - see the website for details.
